Crafty

It has been a while but I decided to try a few crafty things I saw on pinterest.  I think they turned out cute and so does Ty.  He is giving me two thumbs up.  Calli and I had a heck of a time getting our pumpkins to stay on top of each other with dowels.  After doing the project we found out it would be easier to use styrofoam pumpkins and hot glue them together.  Oh well, live and learn.

 Same picture, different lighting

I had to take a picture of my pots before they die.  I was amazed at how good they turned out for my first ever flower pot planting experience!  Thanks to my green thumb friend Mel who assisted me!

Annual Pumpkin Patch Trip

For FHE we went to pick out our pumpkins at the pumpkin patch.  The Harrells and Pages came with us.  We were only missing Dave. He has been so busy at work since accepting the job as the city attorney that we have not seen much of him lately.  We are hoping it settles down soon! Cade was a good sport and helped load up all our pumpkins.

Go BYU & Dave!

Tradition in the Shirley Family is going to BYU football games.  We all love it!  The atmosphere, the treats, the weather, the crowds, and the hype!  Some weeks we don't know if we will be going or not depending on Dave's work schedule.  The Utah State game was one of those weeks.  At noon on Friday Dave came home and said lets go now so we can make it to the game tonight.  I hurried and got the kids out of school and we were off.  (Cade stayed for a friends 16th bday party).  We dropped off the younger kids at Grandma and Grandpa Shirley's and took Ashley and Kayla with us.
Our first stop was Sensuous SandwichThis place brings back good memories for Dave and I when we went to school at BYU.  It was yummy and we could afford it!  Dave has always wanted to do the 2 foot sandwich challenge.  Now he can cross that one off  his bucket list!  Mikayla and Ashley were more than excited to route him on.  He did it in 17 minutes!

Ham and pastrami!  The last bite was getting hard to take down due to all the mayo!

He did it and has a tshirt to prove it and free soda every time he visits the place!
His picture is now on the board. The shirt says, "The second best thing you can do with your lips is eat a Sensuous Sandwich!"
The Game was a little slow compared to last years amazing finish but still felt good to leave with a win!
Long story short....Ashley missed volleyball practice on Friday (which I thought she didn't even have) Anyway she ended up not getting to play in her next volleyball game because I didn't call the coach until after practice was over.  Big misunderstanding and mess but ended up being sad because they lost their first game.  Ashley was a great sport in cheering on her team and having a good attitude.

Girls Trip

 Utah Trip!
With 3 of us having birthdays within a month of each other, we decided this would be a perfect time to celebrate big! (I hit the big 40 mark!)  We headed out for an overnighter to Utah to shop, eat, and visit.  We stayed in Layton at Tiffany's house (Mel's sister).  We had dinner at Garcia's and made our waiter blush!  After all we were having Marilyn's bachelorette party too!  We stayed up late talking and watching the Katy Perry movie.  The next day was filled with more shopping as we checked out IKEA and the mall.  We had awesome music from the 80's and 90's that we all sang our little lungs out to on the way home.  It was a blast and a much needed rejuvinating trip!

Mel was squished in the back with her desert from Kneaders.  The van was packed to the max after visiting IKEA.

Cardboard Boating

For Scouts the boys made cardboard boats and raced them in the river.  Cade and Fernando started off strong and in the lead but slowly the front collapsed and filled with water sinking their boat.  Cade would not give up.  He pulled the sunken boat while swimming all the way to shore.
Cade pre-race - a little cocky!

 Beginning to sink

The End
Everybody and the remains of their boats.  Noah (on left) and Cade Seely made it back to shore in Noah's Ark. It was HUGE! Kaden and Tanner eased on in without problem with their doubled cardboard and pure duct taped bottom.  The boys had fun and laughed a lot!

Valerie turns 6

 Happy Birthday Valerie
Valerie turned 6 on September 25, 2012.  She was so excited to get her ears pierced.  She chose diamond colored flowered studs.  We went to Walmart and she gritted her teeth and then presto!  She did have to grit her teeth a little longer than normal because both machines got stuck up to her ears after making the holes.  She was very brave and so excited.  She has remembered everyday to clean and turn them.

This year was family party time.  Averi and Kynlee Page were invited since they are like family to us.  We ended up going to Ice Age 4 at the movies after eating at home.  Valerie is mature beyond her years and very delightful to be around!  She has no problem telling people how it is and snapping her fingers while doing it.
